Women are fighting an uphill battle with the media. The many gains we made in the traditional media during the 1970s and 1980s are now leveling off. Meanwhile, women are still fighting to be recognized as the powerful voices that we are in the new media - where over 50% of bloggers are women (though you might not guess it). Women spokespeople are too often pitted against each other in pseudo "cat fights," while women's stories are often relegated to the Style section, if in fact they are told at all.
That's where we come in. The Women's Media Center (WMC) is not only committed to making women more visible and powerful in the media, we're here to keep you apprised of the fights that are happening every day across our country to ensure equal representation. We want to help you to get involved - and in turn, to help us advocate for a more just and equitable media.
